Fathers of the Spanish Constitution receive an Honorary PhD

May 2018.  José Pedro Pérez-Llorca and Miquel Roca received Honorary PhDs in recognition of their contribution to write the Spanish Constitution, which helped to consolidate freedom and stability.

Abril 2015. José Manuel Durão Barroso fue investido a petición de la Facultad de CCSS y Comunicación por su liderazgo como Presidente de la Comisión Europea y su papel como mediador de la paz.

June 2010. Shirin Ebadi, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003, was recognized by UE for her dedication and support for human rights and for fighting for liberty and justice.

May 2010. To commemorate the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures, Nelson Mandela was awarded an Honorary PhD for his contribution to liberty, tolerance and social progress.

April 2006. The writer Mario Vargas Llosa was honored for his outstanding contribution to literary creation in Spanish and for his personal commitment to society from his holistic viewpoint.

Luis Bassat

February 2005. Luis Bassat, President of Bassat Ogilvy Iberia Group, received the title of Honorary Doctorate by the Faculty of Communication and Humanities.

Miguel Fisac

In January 2004, architect Miguel Fisac received an Honorary PhD for his contribution to 20th century Spanish architecture.

Per Ingvar Branemark

December 2003. The first Honorary PhD ceremony was held at UE. Swedish bioengineer Per Ingvar Branemark, the 'father' of osseointegration, was recognized by the School of Health Sciences.
