New access profile and degree access routes.

The student wishing to access the Master’s Degree in Physical Activity and Health should hold one of the following university undergraduate degrees:

  • Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences
  • Degree in Physical Education
  • Degree in Primary School Teaching with a specialization in Physical Education
  • Degree in Medicine
  • Degree in Nusing
  • Degree in Physical Therapy

Access Requirements 

In order to access the Master’s Degree, the student must satisfy the legal requirements in accordance with R.D. 861/2010:

In order to access the Master’s degree it will be necessary to have an official Spanish university degree or other issued by a higher education institution in the European Higher Education Area which allows the candidate in the country where the degree was issued, to access postgraduate Master’s Degrees.  

Those candidates who have obtained their degrees in educational systems outside the EHEA will also be able to access the course without the need to get their degree officially recognized, once the University has ensured that their degree is equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degree and allows the candidate, in the country where the degree was issued, to access postgraduate studies. Access via this route will not imply the official recognition of the prior undergraduate degree, nor its recognition for any other purpose other than to access the Master’s Degree.

The admissions process for Real Madrid Graduate School – Universidad Europea programs can take place at any time during the year, although enrollment on any graduate program will depend on the availability of places.

Facilities

The Master’s Degree in Physical Activity and Health makes available to students the following facilities:  

  • Physiology of Exercise Laboratory: Vmax gas analyzers, lactate YSI 1500 analyzers, pH analyzers and electrolyte ABL- 77, cycloergometer with electromagnetic brakes and cycloergometer with mechanic brakes,  ergometer arms, treadmills, biochemical blood analyzer, ammonia analyzer, electrostimulator, electromiograph, materials for anthropometry, corporal composition analysis, electrocardiograph with 12 channels, telemeters for cardiac frequency registry, etc.
  • Sports Training Laboratory: evaluation and isodynamic strength machines, portable accelerometers for calorie burning estimations, telemeters to register cardiac frequency and fitness room.
  • Biomedicine Laboratory: SISMEX blood analysis, biochemical hormones (ELISA, RIA, etc.), latest generation DNA sequencer with hair technology, etc.
  • Biomechanical Laboratory: Dynamometric platform, 2 and 3 dimension digitalization, jumping machine, all to undertake cinematic and kinetic analysis, etc.

Collaborating Companies

Students can undertake internships in research projects relating to different pathologies such as McArdle disease or cancer.

It is worth mentioning the collaborations with:

For those in the professional profile, students can undertake their internships at fitness centers such as Holmes Place, Go Fit or Reebok.

Since February 2017, the program has had the backing of “Exercise is Medicine Spain”.

Exercise is Medicine is a health initiative, accredited by the American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM). The main aim is to introduce physical exercise as something to be prescribed by national health systems, with multidisciplinary integration amongst medical professionals: family practitioners, pediatricians, nurses, physical therapists, nutritionists and professionals in physical activity and sports sciences, as well as collaborating with different government agencies at a regional and national level.

Currently belongs to the School of Doctoral Research and is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Health at Universidad Europea de Madrid. Leads different research projects regarding chronic pathologies, with a very representative role at the Hospital Universitario Niño Jesús de Madrid. She has published 124 articles, holds a a 95% percentile in Research Gate and an index H of 32.

Dr. Alejandro Lucía Mulas

Professor in Physiology of Exercise, Universidad Europea de Madrid, with 464 published articles, a 97% percentile in Research Gate and an index H of 51. He is the largest representative of research into the physiology of exercise in Spain, with ample international experience. He leads different research groups, including at Fundación i+12 at Hospital 12 de Octubre de Madrid.

  • The Master’s Degree in Physical Activity and Health is designed to provide the knowledge needed to plan and program training sessions geared at improving health and quality of life.
  • This degree allows you to choose between two different approaches: the research profile and the professional profile, according to what fits the student’s interests better.  
  • Research profile: the necessary knowledge is developed to undertake scientific research in this field and to help to prepare for a doctoral program. Additionally, internships take place in projects with patients with many diverse illnesses such as McArdle Disease, cancer or pulmonary hypertension, as well as in the elderly.
  • Professional profile: the program focuses on the practical aspect, centering on getting to know the reality of fitness centers and training techniques for the special needs population.  
  • It is the first official program in Spain to achieve the backing of “Exercise is Medicine Spain”, an initiative across sixteen European countries such as Portugal, the UK or Germany, which aims for the introduction of exercise as something to be prescribed by national health systems.

Career opportunities

  • Research applied to the area of exercise in special populations and healthy populations, intervening in populations with pathologies through personal training.  
  • Intervening in populations with pathologies and healthy populations through clinical exercise centers.  
  • Intervening with patients with pathologies and healthy populations in fitness centers.

1. Documentation

To begin your admission process, the first thing to do is book your appointment online or by calling +34 91 112 88 50.

When will you know you’ve been accepted?

3. Reserve your place

Along with the admissions letter, you will receive an envelope with information about official registration. It is recommended that in order to reserve your place, you should respond within 7 days of receiving the letter.

4. Registration

All students joining the Universidad Europea for the first time, wanting to study a degree, must open a file with the university, prior to registration. The Department of Admission for New Students will provide the candidate with all the documentation and forms to complete their registration.

Convalidations and transfers

You don’t have to carry on doing something you don’t want to. For this reason, we have designed specific convalidation and university transfer plan. If you want to know your personalized plan, as quickly and easily as possible, send us an email to convalidaciones@universidadeuropea.es along with the following documentation:

  • Personal academic certificate of the original degree.
  • Study plan sealed by the Secretariat of the center of origin.
  • The academic program of the subjects studied and/or enrolled in the original degree.
  • Officially translated degree certificate (only in the case of foreign graduates)

In case of requesting recognition for professional experience, you will be required to provide;

  • Work life certificate
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Company certificate, only in those cases where it is necessary to prove the functions performed in the company, or in cases of students with international professional experience who cannot provide a work-life certificate.

Professional practices

Internships in companies are a key element in your education. Acquiring experience and putting into practice what you have learned on your degree is the best way to enter the labor market. There are two types of internship, curricular (which are included as part of your program) and extracurricular (which you can do on a voluntary basis).

In order to carry out an internship in a company, you’ll need to have passed 50% of your credits and register before you start the internship. Both the company and a professor on your course will monitor your progress on the internship as well as providing an evaluation at the half way mark and upon completion. 

If you want to gain extra work experience before finalizing your university studies, you are welcome to carry out extracurricular internships. You can carry them out in whichever year of your studies you choose but we remind you that internships are formative and should complement your studies. The more theoretical knowledge you have acquired throughout your degree, the more you will benefit from the internships.
