The Board of Directors of the American Business Council has re-elected Miguel Carmelo as president of the association. Previously, the president of the Universidad Europea and CEO of Laureate International Universities in Europe was the vice-president of the institution until 2014, when he was appointed president as the successor of Marcos de Quinto, who had directed the organization for four years before becoming  Chief Marketing Officer for The Coca-Cola Company.

As president, Miguel Carmelo will continue to promote the mutual interests of the USA, Spain and Europe through the association, established in 1988 as the only institution exclusively representing the interests of American companies in Spain. The American Business Council in Spain consists of the 53 most important American corporations in Spain, represented at the highest level.

The members of the association, including Laureate International Universities, represent 7% of Spanish GDP, according to data from the Chamber of Commerce, and are business entities capable of creating wealth and over 300,000 direct and indirect jobs in Spain. The original mission of the American Business Council is to provide a space for dialog where the CEOs and Presidents of American companies in Spain can share impressions, experiences and the challenges they face, and which affect the worldwide business ecosystem.
