Last week, Dr Elena Gómez, professor of Journalistic Writing at Universidad Europea, and director of the “Dulce Chacón” Resource Center for Learning and Research Library, took part in the 11th International Seminar on Language and Journalism, organized by Fundéu-BBVA and Fundación San Millán de la Cogolla. Various academics, journalists and comedians came to this edition, with a core theme of “The language of humor in Spanish journalism”.
The Seminar included three sessions: Dr Elena Gómez, of Universidad Europea, moderated the debate on “Humor and creation of language”, while Antonio Fraguas and Magí Campas, moderated “Information is assimilated with humor” and “From the column to the tweet, including the cartoon”, respectively.
The role of humor in information, creating information with humor and humor in the news, the comedic greats and information in Spanish journalism were just some of the issues debated by comedians and academics. Two days full of many conclusions that leave one idea clear: “humor is much more serious than it seems”.
