General information

Preliminary considerations

The purpose of the university computer resources is to serve as support for teaching and research. The lecturers, employees and students should use them (employ them) for work and study.

It is forbidden to use these resources for commercial or leisure purposes (games, chats or online conversations in real time, etc).

The use of the online services is an inseparable part of many university activities. For this reason it is necessary to establish a series of rules and guidelines to ensure respect for the information and work of the other people who share the same resources.

Responsibility of users

Users undertake to respect the configuration of the computers they use, employing only the programs installed by the university information services.

Legality

The software installed in the computers is registered for use in the university. It is illegal to copy programs and documents.

Solidarity

Incorrect use of the resources and services may lead to problems in the work of others, causing unnecessary expense, disturbance, etc.

If incorrect or abusive use is made of the networks this may deprive other people of the necessary means to carry out their work.

Avoid the indiscriminate use of images, videos, sounds, etc., as their size could overload the line and reduce the transmission speed, causing problems for other users.

Rules for using the computer classrooms

The computers in these classrooms provide support in teaching and research. To rationalize the workstations, the following priorities of use have been established:

  • Use by the teaching body
  • Free use

All students enrolled in UEM may work in these classrooms and should comply with the following rules of use and behavior:

  • They should not damage the equipment or infrastructure, or relocate the equipment or change its configuration without the permission of those responsible.
  • After use the computers should be switched off (CPU and monitor), and the applications should be exited correctly.
  • Do not use chairs assigned to other workstations.
  • The equipment must not be used for commercial or leisure purposes.
  • Users are not authorized to install software.
  • Users are responsible for ensuring the information in their work area does not infringe the current legislation on Legal Protection of Computer Programs.
  • Users undertake that they will not access resources which they are not authorized to access.
  • No system may be used to interfere with the normal operations of the same or of the computers to which it is connected.
  • It is prohibited to diffuse viruses or other programs that cause harm to the equipment.
  • It is forbidden to use the equipment for playing games.
  • It is forbidden to deliberately block the systems or communication links.
  • Users undertake to not send offensive or libelous information or disturb other users through any of the available intercommunication mechanisms.
  • The printers must be used correctly.
  • It is forbidden to eat or drink in the laboratory area. During free shifts it is forbidden to speak loudly or form groups and it is forbidden to wait or stand in the classroom.
  • It is forbidden to reserve a computer if the user is not physically present.
  • UEM reserves the right to use the classrooms in special circumstances: facilities, exams, enrollment, etc.

Breach of these rules may lead to temporary or final restrictions in using the resources and the implementation of corrective measures applicable to users of these classrooms.
